Poisonous Dog Food

Poisonous Dog Food

If your Border Collie is anything like mine, I bet he can’t get enough of human food. It’s easy to be tempted by those sad puppy easy eyes and give your dog some human food treats every now and again.

The only problem with that is that not everything we eat can be given to dogs. Some human food is actually poisonous to them and can make them very sick. You can see a list of good fruit and vegetable treats for your Border Collie.

Poisonous Food You Can’t Give to Your Dog

Although making a list of every single thing that is poisonous to dogs would take me forever, I will outline some of the more common foods that you should never give to your Border Collie.

Vegetables and Spices

Here is a list of poisonous vegetables.

  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Chives
  • Tomatoe Plant (or unripe tomatoes)
  • Potatoes (raw or the plant)
  • Cornstalk

Fruits to Avoid

Most fruits are not that bad to give to the dog. However you should always avoid the seeds inside the fruits. While the fruit part is alright for them to eat, the seeds and fruit pits are poisonous.

  • Avocado
  • Grapes
  • Raisins
  • Fruit Pits and Seeds

Other Poisonous Foods to Avoid

Here is a list of some other foods which don’t fit in the previous two categories that you should keep away from your Border Collie.

  • Mushrooms
  • Walnuts
  • Pistachios
  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Chocolate
  • Caffeine Products
  • Alcohol and Hops

If your dog has eaten any of the food listed above, call your Veterinarian with your dog’s weight and the amount of the food he consumed. Some of the things listed above are harmless in small amounts and are only dangerous in larger quantities.
