Border Collie Obedience Training

Everyone wants their dog to be well behaved and obedient. Owning a dog that chews, bites, digs and messes up your house is a huge burden. That is why Border Collie obedience training is so important. The good news is that it’s also very simple if you know what you’re doing.

Unless you adopt and older dog that has been previously trained, you will need to put some effort into training your dog to obey and follow your house rules. You don’t want deal with a disobedience hooligan on a destructive rampage that lives in your home.

Many owners forget about obedience training and then wonder why their dogs don’t listen to them and always cause a mess. While Border Collies are really, and I do mean really, intelligent – they don’t have mysterious instincts that tell what they can chew and what they can’t touch.

You have to understand that this breed is very intelligent and very energetic. they need someplace to put all that energy. So if they are never taught not to chew on your belongings instead of their chew toys, that energy will be put into chewing a hole through your favorite pair of shoes.

Don’t forget about the instincts these dogs do have, which is herding. So don’t be too surprised if your dog turns into a manipulative little dog without proper obedience training.

Start Obedience Training Early

Obedient Border CollieIt’s very important to start obedience training as soon as possible. These dogs are never too old to learn something new, but of course it’s easier to teach them good habits while they are at a younger age.

Another good reason to start training your Border Collie early is because it’s very easily too encourage bad behavior to your dog without even realizing it.

Your dog is constantly watching and learning from you, so any action you do has the potential to promote or discourage bad behavior – which is why it’s very important that you know how to deal with a disobedient dog.

If you want to own a well-trained and obedient dog then you need to make sure he can understand you. They are very smart, but unfortunately they are not born pre-programed, they have to learn everything through obedience training.

If you do everything right, you will have:
Predictable and obedient Border Collie that doesn’t cause any problems or embarrassments, a dog that listens to you and respects you!

Here are some obedience training tips:

  • #1 - Teach only one new trick at a time
  • #2 - Always  make sure the training is FUN
  • #3 - Be patient with your dog, even if things get frustrating
  • #4 - Keep training sessions short
  • #5 - Reward your dog for good behavior (treats, praise or borth)
  • #6 - Never hit your dog, this is never a solution
  • #7 - Always be consistent

    A good dog trainer will train you to train the border collie.Breeder I got my BC from will train the person not the dog.She has been breeding/raising/training BC’s for over 30 years.Also they are “sensitve” to tone of voice & body langauge.I spend more than 40 hrs/week with my bc,@ least 25 mile walk over 7 days,over all they require a lot of exercise & your time
